The Porter-Cable CMB15 is a high-PSI portable compressor for inflation that comes with many of the required accessories. Maxing out at 150 PSI, it has the highest maximum pressure of the portables we have reviewed. The oil-free pump makes this model low-maintenance, but the features, specs, and accessories really bring it to the next level.
The CMB15 is fully shrouded, has a handle, and is lightweight, making it truly portable. Unlike the other portables we have reviewed, this unit features a tank, water drain valve, and rubber feet, as well as the standard pressure gauge. Included with the actual unit is an 8-piece accessory kit for inflation, which includes two tapered nozzles, a ¼” tire chuck, a hose adapter, a two-piece high flow inflator and deflator kit, teflon tape, and a coiled hose.

What it’s Good For
The main use of the CMB15, like most other portable compressors, is inflation. The accessories provide you with the capabilities to perform a variety of inflation tasks. In addition to these tools, this model could also power a blow gun for cleaning purposes and a brad nailer, though the unit will need to restart frequently to keep up with large amounts of brad nailing work.
The Pros and Cons
Unlike many other electric-powered portable compressors, this model comes with a power cord that can only be used with a standard outlet. If you wish to use it on-the-go, as many people use portables, make sure that the tank is full before leaving your home/power source and be sure to secure it well in your car for safety.
Other disadvantages of this product would include the volume and use capacity. At 79 dBA, this unit is not what we would call quiet. Based on the reviews for how often the unit needs to recharge for brad nailing, it certainly is not recommended for any other use beyond that and inflation.
The pros of the CMB15 are far more apparent. Firstly, an accessory kit is always a plus, as it often sets you up for immediate use, eliminating the need to go out and buy inflation tools. The oil-free pump is low-maintenance, ideal for the infrequent use of most portable air compressors. With a 25-foot coil hose, you have great reach from your power source for easier use and less movement around the worksite. The unit is lightweight, so any relocations that do need to be made during the work session are easy enough, especially with the handle incorporated into the unit’s shrouding. The water drain valve is key for any compressor with a tank – you want to ensure that it is properly drained when not in use to avoid any tank rusting or damage. Lastly, rubber feet will keep your unit firmly planted wherever you set it down, which minimizes damage to floors and work surfaces.
To sum things up, this unit is a high quality portable air compressor. If you want to use it on-the-go, you’ll need to fill it before you leave your house. Because it has a tank, unlike other portables, you can fill it and store it in your vehicle as needed – just be sure to follow any safety precautions regarding how the unit should be secured. However the tank is small so you really need to be near a power source if you plan to use it for longer periods. The CMB15 can meet any of your DIY inflation needs, as well as power small air tools, though it will need to recover often, making it inconvenient for construction professionals. Overall, this product is excellent for general at-home use by consumers.
