The California Air Tools 1P1060S is a portable air compressor that can accomplish far more than inflation. This lightweight, oil-free, steel tank compressor can be used for inflation of tires, air mattresses, toys, and balls, as most portable air compressors can. But it can also be used for staple guns, brad guns, finish nail guns, airbrushes, and blow guns. As far as portables go, this is a wide variety of uses you won’t find other models able to accomplish.
Even for a small compressor, the 1P1060S has a lot of standard features. This unit includes two pressure control gauges, one universal ¼” quick connector, thermal overload and external current protectors, and an air filter. It even has a handle for easy transportation.

What it’s Good For
This unit is incredibly quiet, coming in at only 56 dBA, the lowest of the compressors we’ve reviewed. Even at that low noise level, this model manages to fill quickly, taking about 50 seconds to go from empty to full at 120 PSI. On top of that, the recovery time from 90 PSI to 120 PSI is only 15 seconds.
This unit is electric-powered, and features a 72-inch (6-foot) power cord. Depending on how much reach you need, you’ll want to get an air hose of an appropriate length – this unit does not come with a hose. The 1P1060S also has an upright handle, making it easy to move around if you need to move from outlet to outlet as you work.
The Pros and Cons
We are hard-pressed to find many “cons” of this unit. The fact that a hose is not included is an inconvenience, but certainly not uncommon when buying an air compressor. The tank is small, which likely results in shorter duty cycles and more frequent restarts. You may want to use this air compressor constantly, but having an oil-free pump means you need to be careful about damage to the pump components as a result of overuse. The steel tank is prone to rust, unlike the aluminum tanks featured in other California Air Tools air compressors.
More obvious are the good features of this product. At 56 dBA, this compressor is about as quiet as you can get for this size, so working in the home and in residential neighborhoods will not be an issue. You can use this model for a wide variety of tools, making it accessible for the hobbyist, the DIY enthusiast, and the small-project professional; however, the CFM is relatively low, so be sure that the tools you need can function at a CFM of below 1.5 before committing to buying this product. The quick fill and quick recovery times make the 1P1060S great for a lot of jobs, as long as you mind your duty cycle length. Last, but certainly not least, the unit is designed for a life span of over 3,000 hours, so it will last you a long time with appropriate usage.
This product is of very high quality. The shortcomings are so few, you really have to be picky to find something to dislike. This model is very quiet, lightweight, compact, easy to move, quick-filling, and great for a variety of uses. Make sure that you have a hose or that you order one separately so that you are set up for almost any small project as soon as the compressor arrives at your home.
